This is a 1st in a series called, “I’m Saved.. Now what?!” So you made the alter call or you accepted Jesus at an event… so how does this all work? We are going to cover the practical life applications of Christian living & how to make it from the concrete to Heaven. Grab your Bible or open up in another internet browser an Online Bible … (if you are on your phone download YouVersion’s Bible App.) so you can follow along. I use the NKJV version of the Bible for this series.

First thing I want to say is Welcome! Welcome to the family of God! Jesus has chosen you out of everyone else to be adopted into the family of Heaven. Heaven celebrated as you were accepting Jesus into your heart. It’s a real big deal.

The goal of this family is to serve God and love people. Some will tell you that Christianity is a set of rules. It’s relationship between a God that loves you with an everlasting love and you. Much sacrifice was made to get you in that place where you & God could be together. (see Romans 5:6-11)

How can I be certain that I am saved?
God’s word (the Bible) says:
* Admit we have sinned “for all have sinned & fall short of the glory of God..” Romans 3:23 “the wages (or price) of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23 “If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.” 1John 1:10

* Believe in Jesus Christ, “as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name” John 1:12 Jesus Himself made this promise for you “All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.” John 6:37

* Confess that Jesus is Lord “if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus & believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9 (see Ephesians 2:8,9)

When your feelings get the best of you, say Romans 10:9 out loud. Don’t depend on your feelings. Some feel great joy & freedom in the beginning but this will fade with time.. this is normal.

* Stay growing – God, like a good loving father calls you ‘His child’, and has sent His Holy Spirit to work inside you. Jesus said, “the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, & bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” John 14:26

* Progress NOT perfection. Always keep this in mind when discouragement comes. God’s word says, “For there is not a just man on earth who does good & does not sin.” Ecclesiastes 7:20 Now that you have a desire to change you will regret your failures. But it’s about baby steps, practice when you read in the Bible & trust that the Holy Spirit will get you there.

* Don’t give up! Doubts & failures will come. Salvation happens in an instant but the other process, called Sanctification is a process of gradual growth. God made you for a mission. He has a plan for your life & won’t give up on you. Read His word to hear His voice daily & ask for His help. God promises to help you improve … “He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ..” Philippians 1:6  – Pastor Pete “DJ one3” Walker
