Phil. 3:13, 14
“Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,
I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (NKJV)
2013, that rough year is in the rear view. We have a choice to look back and get stuck in the mess or look toward the horizon at a new day. Perhaps make some changes or have that new attitude. Diets, eating better or working out more. No matter what you’ve chosen… we all know that resolutions tend to fade faster then the holiday itself. Gym membership last year, for example went up 93% after New Year. Then come February, dipped by 89%. What are some things that God can tell us to keep us, not only on the right track but keep up our positive changes throughout the whole year? New Year, New Direction, New Attitude:
1) Prayer. Start off each day connected to your power source, Jesus. Matt. 21:22 “whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”
2) Keep your heart happy, regardless. Pro. 17: 22 “A merry heart does good, like medicine, But a broken spirit dries the bones.”
3) Keep your mind right. Phil. 4:8 “whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”
4) With Jesus we can! Phil. 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
5) Do not be discouraged nor give in to anxiety. Heb. 13:6 “”So we may boldly say: “The LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?””
6) The Lord is there when times get hard. Nahum 1:7 “The LORD is good, A stronghold in the day of trouble; And He knows those who trust in Him.” Clearly, in case you missed it.. You’re never alone when you have a relationship with Jesus. He helps & keeps us safe.
7) Stay Connected all day ery day! Jesus will keep you on track when the lines of communication remain on. Give up the thanks to Him that gave it to you.. 1Thes. 5:17,18 “pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
When we fail or slip, it’s in our nature to complain. God’s will is for us to give thanks in that moment. Not sarcasm but genuine thanksgiving. Sounds weird doesn’t it? Try it and you’ll notice stress and negativity roll right off when we do this. This is essential in keeping up that forward momentum. Guess our creator knows what He’s doing after all. Yes, pray throughout the day makes the blues go away.
If we do the same old thing, we can expect the same results. So why not let God take the wheel of our lives and see what new places or positive changes He can take us to. God says to us right now:
Isa. 43:19 “Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert.”
Don’t look back. Have faith in The Lord to make that new start stick. Press on toward our prize, which is to be like Jesus, our living example. AMEN & May His grace & peace be with you in 2014 & beyond.
